WordPress or a hand-coded website – which suits your business?
Both are good routes to a professional website. Which one fits better depends mainly on how often you want to change things yourself – and how much upkeep you're willing to take on.

What's the difference?
WordPress is a content management system: your content is stored in a database, and you can edit text and images yourself through an interface. A hand-coded website consists of finished HTML, CSS and JavaScript files. There's no database and no plugins – the developer makes changes directly in the files.
When WordPress makes sense
- You want to change content yourself regularly, for example gallery images or job ads.
- The website is meant to grow later, for example with a blog or many subpages.
- Several people in your business should be able to maintain content.
The price for that: WordPress, theme and plugins need regular updates. If they're neglected, the site gets slower and more vulnerable. Maintenance is therefore almost always worthwhile with WordPress.
When a hand-coded website is the better choice
- Your content rarely changes – services, contact details and references mostly stay the same.
- Loading speed matters to you: without a database and plugins, such sites are very fast.
- You want as little tech and upkeep as possible.
Without a database there's far less attack surface. In return, you need someone to make changes for you – at Studio Adil via a short message, individually or as part of a plan.
Side-by-side comparison
| WordPress | Hand-coded | |
|---|---|---|
| Edit content yourself | Yes, via the interface | Via the developer |
| Loading speed | Good, if maintained | Very fast |
| Security | Needs regular updates | Hardly any attack surface |
| Maintenance | Regularly needed | Mainly for changes |
| Extensibility | Very flexible | Good for clearly defined sites |
My recommendation
For many small businesses with a clear website that rarely changes, a hand-coded site is the leaner solution. If you want to maintain a lot yourself, WordPress serves you better. In the first call we look together at what fits your day-to-day – I build both. By the way, this website is hand-coded.
